I live in AZ, which is still number one in ID theft. I had my husband's SSI number stolen and someone opened up a credit card in his name, two years after his death. The credit card company informed me, I HAD TO PAY $2,000 BECAUSE IT CAME TO MY ADDRESS. I never had a card with this company and I have impeccable credit, and I never saw any money. I sent three death certificates of my husband's to all three major credit bureaus at the time of his demise. I called them and asked how this could happen; they said they ONLY KEEP THE DEATH CERTIFICATES FOR SIX MONTHS. Now that really leaves us widows/widowers very vulnerable. Then I called and the attorney told me not to pay it, and if I heard anymore from them, they would get involved with a letter to them. I called the credit card company and told them to dig him up and he could pay it!! I never heard from them again! Nor was it charged to any of my credit.
